Let's focus on communicating
'Cause I just need the time and place to come through
(Place to come through)
This full moon is in the sign of Cancer, which represents your emotional awareness (how are you feeling?),your intuition (what’s your gut telling you?), your inner guide which is the voice inside that already knows what is right or wrong. We don’t always want to listen, or we have been trained to doubt that inner voice because rationality and social conditioning can make us look elsewhere for those answers.
This cancer full moon brings up themes of time, memory, nostalgia, and nurturing and being nurtured. How are you doing with those things in your life?
When the moon is in Cancer, it's in its one and only home, or domicile, and the moon in Cancer provides our lives the thematic circumstances that are the most ‘moony’ as possible. We have access to a very deep emotional water-world, the great mother energy, the womb, the source, and connections to the past can easily come up. Connections to childhood, to family, ancestors, the mother land, and the emotional landscape within ourselves and others.
Full moon in Cancer always faces off against the sun in the opposite sign of Capricorn, which happens to be in a conjunction, or a joining, with mercury retrograde. In fact, within one day, this mercury is going to be in the heart of the sun, a very auspicious placement for the planet that represents our mind, communication, and rationality. So this is an interesting thing to note that mercury, the rational mind, in Capricorn, the sign or responsibility and structure, is going backwards - revising, rethinking, etc. all the re words, and this lends extra energy of contemplation of the past to the full moon in cancer.
What light is being shed with this blend of emotional depth and rational thought? Intuition and clarity about the past may be on full blast during this full moon period for you.
You may hear this moon being called the Full Wolf Moon, which sounds very cool, I must say, not at all like the lame sounding Worm Moon we get in March. We have to hand it to the indigenous Americans who coined this January full moon, the wolf moon, because it has some strong metaphoric correlations with the cancer archetype. Literally, January was a time that the tribes said wolves could be heard howling, and likely the wolves were much closer to the human camps in the dead of northern hemisphere winter, looking for scraps or waiting to raid the human stores of food. But why do wolves howl? They do it to communicate with the pack, to protect their territory - sound familiar? A deep desire to protect and bond with family is the through-line of a cancer moon.
Cancer full moon illuminates themes of your relationships to your past, to your family, to your childhood.
I’ve been thinking a lot about the domestication of humanity. Most of the challenges related to raising children, or being raised ourselves, comes from the friction involved with expressing desire that is not socially acceptable, and repressing those drives or desires. Some of that is necessary, and required to live in social structures of societies, and the smaller version of that - families. We live in a world that requires rules - that’s the Capricorn responsibility counterbalancing the wildness, the freedom of emotional flow, that we have with cancer. This could be a time to reflect on reclaiming some of our childhood purity, that part of us that rebelled and fought against emotional or social repression, and gather up a bit of wonder and wisdom from that nostalgic look backwards. Can we do something for that hurt we may still carry with us from so long ago? Can we put some forgiveness where anger used to live, eating us up from the inside?
This Full moon in Cancer says nurture your emotions, forgive if you can, and trust your inner voice.
The full moon falls on sabian symbol Cancer 17. The seed grows into knowledge and life.
The seed represents potentiality and when it sprouts, it is in the process of growing into something new. Maybe a seedling is vulnerable, but the power behind the push out of the heavy earth says otherwise. There is immense strength indicated just by the desire to grow up and out. This can indicate in your life a situation full of promise, just at the start of the journey. This goes back to our goals and plans made during the Capricorn new moon, and even further back on a larger timeline to the cancer new moon in June of 2022. These goals and plans may seem fragile, or the growth may seem small - even insignificant - just a sprout - progress is slow. The seed of an oak tree - an acorn - looks nothing like its final form, but with nurturing conditions and time, the mighty oak is inevitable.
This Full Moon in Cancer also gets a supportive sextile from Uranus, planetary bff of yours truly. Sextiles bring easy energy and friendly supportive flow. You may get some release from old emotional spiderwebs as emotional freedom energy is flowing through this sextile. This can also be a desire to break from the past and old patterns of living, but with it coming through a supportive sextile, this will be a positive expression and result if you can get through the challenge of separation from these toxic emotions that can be ingrained or habit. New ideas, new plans or ways to do something, may come out of nowhere, unexpectedly, connecting you to your inner worlds, emotions, and intuition.
